English Breakfast

Good morning, human beans!

I don’t know why but I’ve always had a deep fascination with British literature, TV shows, theatre, accents, royalty. One of the things that are in my “dream itinerary” for a perfect day in the queen’s kingdom is having a full and proper English breakfast. I don’t know why or how I even learned about this but I always knew that the English did breakfast big. As a relatively big eater myself, I knew I had to give it a try. Of course, since international tours are at a halt right now, I can‘t just hop on a plane to have high tea by the Big Ben. So voila! I did the best I could to try to replicate the photos I’ve seen of a classic English breakfast.

I might have taken some liberties in the brands of meat I used but the concept is the same, and the meal was overall heavy and satisfying in a “that was an experience” way, not like you regret your choice but rather knowing that you truly just woke up this morning and knew that today called for a real breakfast meant to fuel you . That’s what this breakfast is. It’s truly a “go big or go home” event.

This recipe will not be rated on my five fork scale because this is my first time not taking from an already published blog or video. I really did this one myself. Well, with reference from Wikipedia, on just what basic foods are included, that is.

  1. Heat up your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. I know this seems high but if you’re just heating up foods that are technically ready to eat or already cooked like beans in a can or anything else, then this will be Able to heat up the oven faster.

  2. Slice tomato in half, season with salt and pepper and place on bare oven grill with the inner half facing down. Doing this makes an awesome charry flavor that makes it so good. Heat for about 5 minutes or until the tomato has softened enough to your liking

  3. Take a can of beans (I use baked Campbell’s) and I just added some sugar, salt and pepper, and put in an oven-safe bowl. Heat for about 10 mins.

  4. Take whatever slice of bread you like and toast that also to your liking.

  5. Heat up the skillet and take a tablespoon of butter (that’s right), and cook canadian bacon. If you’re using regular bacon with fat, just use a little bit of water, the bacon will cook in its own fat and you can use that fat to cook everything else in!

  6. If you have a large enough pan, crack eggs into the same pan. If not, then cook each food one group at a time or on separate pans.

  7. Chop up the sausages into rounds. I used my favorite kielbasa sausage. I highly recommend this! I promise you won’t regret it.

  8. Cook all meats until brown, and eggs to your liking. Season with Himalayan pink salt or any salt and freshly ground pepper to taste. (If using Himalayan pink salt, season sparingly as it can be strong)

  9. Serve altogether with a cup of Twinnings Tea for an added authentic touch!

My favorite element in this surprisingly enough is the grilled tomato. I usually refrain from having any type of vegetable too early in the morning, but with all the filling and salty meats included in this dish, the tomato provides a nice break for freshness in your palette. It pairs really well with everything. To the point where I found myself not needing my typical ketchup with the eggs and sausages. Yes, a fresh grilled tomato is officially the best way to go!

Let me know when you try this and how many forks you‘d rank it! I had such a fun time making this and actually really loved this breakfast. Maybe I’m just a fan of a big breakfast in general, but I’m definitely making it again!

See you next week!

Tata!

xoxo,

franchette
